A. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF MENTAL ILLNESS?
There are many different types of mental illness, but the main groups of mental health disorders are:
1. Mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar disorder) – Isaiah 41:10, 46
2. Anxiety disorders – Philippians 4:6
3. Personality disorders – Psalm 34:4-5
4. Psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia) – 2 Timothy 1:7
5. Eating disorders
6. Trauma-related disorder
B. FACTORS AFFECTING MENTAL HEALTH
Family relationships and dynamics can significantly impact one’s mental health. Factors such as parental support, communication, and a child’s emotional well-being, parenting styles, peer relationships, and social interactions have a profound influence on teenagers’ mental health.
Academic pressure, bullying, social comparison, and expectations can all impact your mental health. School-related stressors can exacerbate anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
Excessive use of technology and social media can have both positive and negative effects on teenagers’ mental health. While technology can facilitate social connections and provide access to information, it can also contribute to feelings of loneliness, social comparison, and cyberbullying
PROMOTING MENTAL WELL-BEING
Promoting mental well-being as a teenager involves adopting healthy habits and coping strategies that support emotional resilience and overall mental health.
Here are some ways to promote mental well-being:
1. Healthy Lifestyle: Maintain a balanced diet, stay hydrated, and get regular exercise. Physical activity releases endorphins, which can boost mood and reduce stress.
2. Adequate Sleep: Prioritize getting enough sleep each night. Teenagers need about 8-10 hours of sleep per night for optimal health and well-being. Establish a consistent sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine.
3. Manage Stress: Learn and practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, meditation, or yoga. These techniques can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
4. Limit Screen Time: Limit exposure to screens (e.g. smartphones, computers, TVs) and social media, especially before bedtime. Excessive screen time can disrupt sleep patterns and contribute to stress and anxiety.
5) Stay Connected: Maintain supportive relationships with family and friends. Social connections are important for emotional support and can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
6) Express Yourself: Find healthy ways to express your thoughts and feelings, such as journaling, creative arts, or talking to a trusted friend or adult. Bottling up emotions can lead to increased stress and anxiety.
7) Set Boundaries: Learn to set healthy boundaries with peers, family members, and social media. It’s okay to say no to activities or requests that feel overwhelming or stressful.
😎 Engage in Activities You Enjoy:.
Make time for hobbies, interests, and activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. Engaging in activities you enjoy can boost mood and promote a sense of well-being.
9) Practice Self-Care: Prioritize self-care activities that nurture your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
10) Seek Support: Reach out for support from trusted adults such as parents, teachers, or school counselors if you’re struggling with your mental health. Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it.
SUMMARY: Maintaining good mental health involves taking care of one’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being through practices such as self-care, stress management, seeking support from others, and accessing professional help when needed. It’s important to prioritize mental health and to recognize that seeking help for mental health concerns is a sign of strength, not weakness.
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being, particularly during the formative years of adolescence. By prioritizing mental health and adopting healthy habits and coping strategies, teenagers can cultivate emotional resilience, cope with life’s challenges, and thrive in their daily lives.

LESSON TWENTY EIGHT (28)
TOPIC: SELF ESTEEM
MEMORY VERSE: Genesis 1:27: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them”.
BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 139:13-14.
LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To gain a deeper
understanding of their worth and identity in Christ, leading to a healthier and more positive self-esteem. Through the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Explore the concept of self-esteem.
2. Understand their identity in Christ.
INTRODUCTION: Genesis 1:27 states that humans are created in the image of God. Each person is uniquely crafted by God with Tof inherent value and purpose. This understanding lays the foundation for a positive self-image. God’s love for us is not based on our performance or achievements but on His inherent goodness and grace. John 3:16 talks about God’s unconditional love for humanity.

B. YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST.
A. UNDERSTANDING SELF ESTEEM
Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves. It’s based on our opinions and beliefs about our self. Self-esteem refers to a person’s overall sense of his or her value or worth. It is important to know that believing in yourself and accepting yourself for who you are is an important factor in success, relationships, and happiness and that self-esteem plays an important role in living a flourishing life. It provides us with belief in our abilities and the motivation to carry them out, ultimately reaching fulfillment as we navigate life with a positive outlook.
Key elements of self-esteem include:
1. Self-confidence
ii. Feelings of security
iii. Identity
iv. Sense of belonging
v. Feeling of competence
People with low self-esteem tend to feel less sure of their abilities and may doubt their decision-making process. They may not feel motivated to try novel things because they don’t believe they can reach their goals. Those with low self-esteem may have issues with relationships and expressing their needs. They may also experience low levels of confidence and feel unlovable and unworthy.
People with overly high self-esteem may overestimate their skills and may feel entitled to succeed, even without the abilities to back up their belief in themselves. They may struggle with relationship issues and block themselves from self. improvement because they are so fixated on seeing themselves as perfect. Rom 12:3.
B. YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST
To be able to understand your identity as a follower of Christ, you need to understand how He sees you. It’s tempting to build your identity on what you accomplish, but this is not a stable foundation. Your true identity is ultimately based on what God has done for you. In the Bible, God tells us often about how He views His people.
Let’s take a look at what He says about you, if you received Him as your Lord and Savior.
i. You are loved. 1 John 3: 1
ii. You are chosen. 1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 2:10
iii. You are forgiven. 2 Corinthians 5:17
iv. You are redeemed. 2 Corinthians 5:21
v. You are adopted. Ephesians. 2:19
SUMMARY: Having healthy self-esteem can help motivate you to reach your goals, because you are able to navigate life knowing that you are capable of accomplishing what you set your mind to. Additionally, when you have healthy self-esteem. you are able to set appropriate boundaries in relationships and maintain a healthy relationship with yourself and others.
CONCLUSION: You were created with a purpose. God had specific intentions for your life when He brought you into the world. First and foremost, your purpose is to know Him and glorify Him. Then you can engage in other good works that will bring God glory and grow your own faith. You were saved from great sin. Now, as a child of God, you can walk with God and do great through His work in you.

LESSON TWENTY NINE (29)
TOPIC: DEALING WITH ADDICTION
MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ that strengtheneth me”.
BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 46:1-7.
LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To equip students with knowledge on the dangers of addiction and practical steps towards recovery. Through the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Understand the reality of addiction.
2. Rely on God for strength to overcome addiction.
INTRODUCTION: Addiction can be something that has control and power over you, something that controls your being, controls your personality and eventually could lead to a destructive action or tendency.
Addictions come in many forms. We immediately think of alcohol and drugs when we hear the term but people can become addicted to many things: food, gambling, shopping, work, cigarettes, pornography, the internet, video games, smart phones, texting, pain medication and so on. That could almost be a mantra for any addiction. It’s always that way. Whether it’s alcohol or something else, it’s always the best thing until it becomes the worst thing.
OUTLINES
A THE REALITY OF ADDICTION.
B. TURNING TO GOD FOR STRENGTH.
A. THE REALITY OF ADDICTION
Addiction is like a black hole. It pulls in everything good and only leaves feelings of hopelessness and loneliness. There are many ways to describe the progression of addiction and how a person becomes addicted, but let’s outline four-step process that seems to cover the main bases. Addiction begins with hurt, which leads to escape, which leads to deception, which leads to slavery.
1.) Hurt (Proverbs 18:14)
Addiction begins with hurt. It may be loneliness, guilt or shame, but at the heart of every addiction there is a deep and lingering hurt that has never been resolved. It may be a pain from your childhood or some traumatic event in your life, but there is always an underlying issue that you have never fully addressed. Addiction begins with hurt.
ii.) Escape (James 1:13-14)
This is part of the cycle of addiction. We cannot bear the emotional pain, and so we seek escape in our addiction. And we find escape in something that seems so wonderful, something that makes us feel good for a change, something that soothes all the bad feelings and numbs the pain. It’s how we learn to cope with our hurt. (James 1:14-15) When we are addicted, we experience this cycle of temptation, desire and sin over and over and over again.
iii.) Deception (Jeremiah 17:9)
Next comes deception. This is one of the most insidious parts of addiction, the lies we tell each other and the lies we tell ourselves. We become experts at hiding our addiction.
We hide it because we are afraid it will be taken away from us if it is discovered. And we don’t know that we can live without it. So we lie, we deceive, we manipulate, we blame, and in the process we lose all true sense of self. Jeremiah 17:9.
The addict’s two main tools are deception and denial. The alcoholic hides bottles around the house. The porn addict encrypts computer files on the hard drive and wipes the browsing history clean. The shop-a-holic keeps separate stashes of money and hides the receipts.
iv.) Slavery (Genesis 4:7; Proverbs 23:29-35; Romans 6:16)
Addiction begins with hurt, which leads to escape, which leads to deception, which leads to slavery. And this is really the main problem with addiction. It is bondage; it is dependency; it is slavery.
B. TURNING TO GOD FOR STRENGTH.
The weight of addiction becomes lighter when you seek a relationship with Christ. For you to overcome addiction, you need to take the following steps:
1. Recognition of Sin: Acknowledge addiction as a manifestation of sin. In Romans 7:18-20, the apostle Paul speaks of the struggle with sin within himself. Understanding that addiction is a result of human brokenness is essential.
2. Repentance and Confession: Turn away from the addiction through repentance and confessing it to God. In 1 John 1:9, it says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
3. Renewal of Mind: Transform your thinking through the renewal of your mind. Romans 12:2 instructs believers to not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
4. Seeking Help: Seek support from fellow believers, pastors, or counselors. Galatians 6:2 encourages believers to carry each other’s burdens.
5. Filling the Void: Replace addictive behaviors with healthy, God-honoring activities. Ephesians 5:18.
6. Guarding Against Temptation: Guard yourself against temptation by fleeing from it. 1 Corinthians 10:13.
8. Forgiveness: Forgive yourself and others for past mistakes and offenses. Ephesians 4:32.
SUMMARY: Believers must guard against temptation, persevere in faith, and forgive themselves and others. By engaging in regular prayer, worship, and study of Scripture.
CONCLUSION: Addiction is a serious problem that affects society, families and individuals. If you are struggling with an addiction this morning, you need help. There’s no quick fix to your problem. It will take time and determination, but with God’s help and by applying these principles from God’s Word to your situation, you can have victory. Will you give your addiction to God this morning?

LESSON THIRTY (30)
TOPIC: OBEDIENCE
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 7:24-27
MEMORY VERSE: – Exodus 19:5. “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine”.
LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To enlightening the students on the importance and blessings of obedience. Through the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Walk in total obedience to God and His word.
2. Discover the various blessings attached to obedience
INTRODUCTION: Οbedience stems from love for God. Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commands.” Obedience is not merely about following rules but expressing love and devotion to God. Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of obedience. Philippians 2:8 describes Jesus’ obedience even unto death on the cross, highlighting his complete submission to the Father’s will. The Bible provides guidelines for righteous living. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Following God’s commands leads to blessings and a fulfilling life. Obedience requires surrendering personal desires and submitting to God’s authority. Galatians 2:20 speaks of crucifying the self and allowing Christ to live through believers.
OUTLINES
A. OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE.
B. THE BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE.
A. OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE.
i. Obedience reflects a heart aligned with God’s desires and purposes.
ii. Obedience reflects trust in God’s wisdom and sovereignty.
iii. God desires consistent obedience rather than sporadic acts of devotion. Jesus reaffirmed this principle in Luke 11:28,
iv. 1 Samuel 15, God commanded Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites and all their possessions as judgment for their wickedness. However, Saul spared the Amalekite king, Agag, and the best of the livestock, contrary to God’s explicit instructions.
v. Sacrifice, in this context, refers to religious rituals and offerings prescribed by God in the Old Testament law. While sacrifices were essential components of worship, they were not meant to replace obedience to God’s commands. It is important that we prioritize obedience over religious rituals or outward acts of worship.
vi. Obedience demonstrates reverence, trust, and submission to God’s will above personal preferences or convenience.
vii. God values the condition of the heart more than external displays of piety. Proverbs 21:3. When obedience is lacking, sacrifices lose their significance. In Saul’s case, his disobedience resulted in God rejecting him as king over Israel (1 Samuel 15:23).
B. THE BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE.
Obedience to God’s commands brings various blessings to believers. Here’s a detailed exploration of these blessings:
i. Favor and Protection: Obedience to God’s commands often leads to His favor and protection. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 Psalm 91:1-16
ii. Peace and Joy: Obedience brings inner peace and joy. Isaiah 48:18 states that peace flows like a river to those who obey God’s commands. Jesus promised His disciples His joy if they obeyed His commandments (John 15:10-11).
iii. Divine Guidance: Obedience opens the door to divine guidance and direction. Psalm 32:8, Proverbs 3:6
iv. Spiritual Growth: Obedience fosters spiritual growth and maturity. 1 Peter 2:2 Hebrews 5:9
v. Intimacy with God: Obedience deepens intimacy with God. John 14:21, James 4:8 encourages believers to draw near to God, and He will draw near to them.
vi. Answered Prayer: Obedience increases the effectiveness of prayer. 1 John 3:22, James 5:16b
vii. Eternal Rewards: Obedience leads to eternal rewards. Revelation 22:14
SUMMARY: Obedience often requires trust and faith in God’s wisdom and goodness, even when His ways seem contrary to Lord with all your heart and leaning not on your own understanding. Obedience is a lifestyle, not a one-time event James 1:22 urges believers to be doers of the word, not just hearers. Consistent obedience leads to spiritual growth and maturity.
CONCLUSION: Obedience to God’s commands brings abundant blessings, including favor, protection, peace, joy, divine guidance, spiritual growth, intimacy with God, generational blessings, answered prayer, and eternal rewards. These blessings demonstrate the loving relationship between God and His obedient children and illustrate the wisdom and goodness of following His ways.

LESSON THIRTY-ONE (31)
TOPIC: FINANCE IN CHURCH
MEMORY VERSE: Luke 6:38 – “Give, and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
BIBLE TEXT: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7.
LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To empower students to Kar actively participate in God’s kingdom work. Through the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Understand the concept of stewardship.
2. Actively invest in kingdom advancement with their resources.
INTRODUCTION: Understanding finance in the church is essential for teens as it provides insight into how financial resources are managed and utilized to support God’s work and mission on earth. In the Bible, we see principles of financial stewardship and generosity woven throughout Scripture, guiding believers in their attitudes and actions towards money and resources. One such principle is found in Malachi 3:10, where God invites His people to test Him in tithing, promising to pour out blessings beyond measure for those who faithfully give. This teaches us that our financial contributions to the church are not merely transactions, but acta of worship and obedience that invite God’s provision and blessing into our lives and communities.
OUTLINES
A. STEWARDSHIP
B. KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT
A. STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship is the understanding that everything we have, our time, talents, possessions, and opportunities is a gift from God, entrusted to us to manage wisely and faithfully. Just as the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 illustrates, God has given each of us unique abilities and resources, and He expects us to use them wisely and for His glory. This means being good stewards of our time by using it purposefully for God’s kingdom, investing our talents and skills in ways that honor Him, and managing our possessions and finances in a manner that reflects God’s values of generosity and responsibility.
Moreover, stewardship involves recognizing that we are not owners but rather caretakers or managers of God’s blessings Psalm 24:
As teenagers, understanding our role as stewards helps us view our lives and resources through a lens of gratitude and accountability to God.
B. KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT.
1. Kingdom advancement in finance involves using our financial resources in ways that align with God’s kingdom purposes and values.
2. This means recognizing that our money belongs to God and seeking to honor Him with how we earn, save, spend, and give.
3. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus teaches us not to store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy.
4. In kingdom advancement Jesus taught us to store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
5. We are to prioritize eternal investments over temporary wealth.
6. Focusing on building God’s kingdom rather than accumulating material possessions for ourselves.
7. As teenagers, kingdom advancement in finance means being intentional and generous with our money, recognizing that it is a tool that God has entrusted to our care. 1 Timothy 6:18-19.
8. By using our finances to support ministries, help those in need, and invest in causes that align with God’s heart, we can participate in advancing His kingdom and making a positive impact in the world.
SUMMARY: Finance in the church is a tangible expression of unity and partnership among believers, as seen in Acts 2:44-45, where the early church shared everything they had, ensuring that no one was in need. This underscores the importance of generosity, compassion, and communal support within the body of Christ.
CONCLUSION: As teens, understanding the role of finance in the church empowers us to actively participate in God’s kingdom work, whether through giving financially, serving in ministries, or stewarding our resources wisely. By embracing biblical principles of financial stewardship and generosity, we can contribute to the advancement of God’s kingdom and the flourishing of His people, both locally and globally.
